While men have been donning these garments for decades, women’s suits are a relatively younger concept. The parts used are quite similar, with elements like collars, lapels, gorges, pockets, vents, pleats and cuffs seen in both men’s and women’s suits. But since the anatomy of the genders is entirely different, the shape and the design vary to fit them perfectly. While men’s jackets are more straight cut, Women’s suits often have darts, tucks, or other shaping elements to accentuate the waist and create a more tailored look. Women’s suit jackets also tend to have narrower lapels and are generally shorter than men’s suit jackets, often ending at the hip or waist rather than covering the buttocks.
